Edinburgh Escapades: Part 3

Hello Beautiful People,

After another morning of work, Kate and I decided it would be a crime to waste such a sunny day cooped up inside, so we headed out for a walk over Salisbury Crags.

I’d never been up there before and the stunning views took my breath away. There was a definite feeling of spring in the air and as we stood on the tops, being buffeted about by the wind, I realised how much I miss being able to step out the front door, straight onto the fells. Living in Huddersfield is brilliant, but it’s a typical, industrial, Yorkshire town, and it’s not so easy to disappear into the wild as it is back home in Cumbria. Standing on top of Salisbury Crag, I felt a great sense of calm and freedom from the stresses of work and remembered how much I love being outdoors.

Once we had taken in the views, Kate and I headed back into town and used the onslaught of torrential rain as an excuse to spend the rest of the afternoon in Pekoe Tea. Another fabulous teashop, Pekoe import all their tea ethically from source and it’s incredibly tasty stuff. As well as their tea, they do an AMAZING salted chocolate brownie and a selection of beautiful macaroons.

Next door to Pekoe, is Lupe Pintos, the chilli and spice shop. They sell authentic imported products from Mexico, Spain, America and spices from all over the globe. I picked up some chillies for my Dad and then we braved the weather and headed home.

Friday. My last morning in Edinburgh before heading back home. To finish the week in style, Kate took me to her favourite café-bistro, Earthy.

I fell in love with the place as soon as I walked through the door. Downstairs, a sea of wooded scrub tables, the best brunch in the world (buttermilk pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, yes please!) and of course, delicious tea! Upstairs, a food shop filled with such a heavenly selection of local, seasonal, organic and amazing produce; I struggled to resist buying the whole shop.

I controlled myself and only bought a few treats for the parents (and a couple for myself). Outside I said a sad goodbye to Kate, hopped into a cab and headed for the train station and home.

Edinburgh is such a beautiful city, and I always have such a fun and silly time whenever I'm with Kate, that I have no doubt I'll be back up there soon!

Love
