Hello Beautiful People!
Lemons are truly wondrous things. Not only are they an
amazing addition to both food and drink, they make fabulous natural
beauty products. I’ve put together a wee list of my top ten favourite uses for
this fabulous yellow fruit. Enjoy :)
Morning Detox Drink
A glass of water (warm or cold) with a slice of lemon is a
great way to start the day. The bright, zesty lemon flavour is perfect for
waking you up and its vitamin goodness will aid digestion and boost immunity throughout the day.
Banish Problem Skin
Lemon juice works wonders at extracting all the nastiness from so skin. Mix lemon juice with baking soda and apply to spots so
reduce oil, bacteria and redness. To reduce acne scaring, mix lemon juice with egg whites, baking soda and apply to problem areas. Be careful with this one if you have
sensitive skin, as the juice can sting and sometimes dry your skin
out.
Fresh Toner
Lemon is really good for cleaning and tightening pores,
mixed this with the soothing effects of cucumber and you get a really lovely facial
toner.
Add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and a few cucumber slices to
a jar of cold water and store in the fridge.
A Few Good Enough to
Eat Scrubs
Face and body scrubs are a lovely and soothing way to
exfoliate your skin. Store bought scrubs can be a tad on the pricey side, so it makes
sense to make your own, especially when they only need a few staple kitchen
ingredients.
Face Scrub
This is a gorgeously thick one. Mix 1 part Lemon, 1 part Water and 1 part Honey to 2 parts Rolled Oats, and apply to skin. The oats act as an gentle yet thorough exfoliate, whilst the
honey smooths and soothes the skin. It also smells INCREDIBLE!
Sugar Scrub
Combine Olive Oil, Honey, Lemon and Sugar to make a lovely
body scrub, that moisturises and exfoliates the skin, tightens pores and doubles
up as a delicious lip scrub. This one is perfect for an evening scrub after a
long day, as its super soothing.
Salt Scrub
As much as I love sugar scrubs, I don’t think you can beat a
good salt scrub, especially in the mornings. I find they give you a bright
and fresh start to the day and a dash of lemon really brings this out. Combine 1 part Lemon to 2 parts Olive Oil and 2 parts Salt –
perfection!
Foot Soak
At the end of a long day, you absolutely cannot beat a good
foot soak, especially if like me, your work involves being on your feet all
day. Mix some Epsom Salts into Lemon and Rosemary infused water and relax for
wee while.
Natural Deodorant
The citric acid in lemons is amazing for banishing bacteria
and keeping your pits smelling fresh.
NB. As a deodorant this will not reduce perspiration. DO NOT
apply to newly shaven armpits! (Ouchy!)
Nail Brightener
In the same way that lemon can act as a natural highlighter
for your hair, it can also lighten and brighten your nails. Chop a lemon in
half and stick your fingers in for a bit, or soak your fingers in a bowl of
lemon juice (if you want to sooth your hands at the same time, add some honey).
Bright Whites
Finally, to brighten your white clothes, add a cup of lemon juice to your washing, along
with your normal detergent.
And there you go, ten natural beauty uses for the lovely
lemon. Let me know your favourites uses for lemons, all new suggestion are very welcome!
